An Unfolded Music Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 37" [62 x 94 cm]) (Learn More)

Star Wars Concert, the 1978 music poster ("The Star Wars symphonic suite by John Williams") promoting a series of concerts featuring the Star Wars musical score by John Williams, and conducted by Zubin Mehta. The concerts began in November of 1977. In the Spring of 1978, the people who ran the concerts sold the idea to other people, and the new owners wanted a single poster image for all of the concerts. This poster was commissioned at that time in 1978 by art director Suzy Rice. It features great art of C-3PO and R2-D2 with a variety of musical instruments by John Alvin. However, it was never released to the public and it was not used at the concerts, which makes it one of the most rare Star Wars posters there is!

Artist: John Alvin
Important Added Info: Note that this poster (which in itself is incredibly rare and one of the most desirable Star Wars posters there is) has an incredibly "provenance". It was given by George Lucas to Allan Trosclair, who was the head of security for Lucas from 1981 to 1985. Trosclair kept some souvenirs of his time working for Lucas until November 2015, when he sold this item and several others to a memorabilia store in San Francisco, and the store owner consigned all of the items to our December 2015 special Star Wars auction, with the exception of THIS poster, which he had considered keeping for himself. But now, that store owner HAS consigned this final item from Mr. Trosclair (together with a second paperweight, like the one from Mr. Trosclair that was auctioned in 2015, and that second paperweight is in a separate auction) to this auction! In addition to the poster, the owner of this auction will also receive a signed letter from George Lucas to Mr. Trosclair, dated August 1, 1983, thanking him and the other employees (we don't know if the letter was signed personally by Mr. Lucas, or by his secretary). See our image of the letter. Also, we have included two images that Mr. Trosclair shared with us, one of which shows him with Kenny Baker (who played R2-D2) on the set of "Return of the Jedi", along with a great far shot of one of the cool sets created for that movie! We have only auctioned this poster once before, and that was in December 2015, and that poster was not in as good condition as this poster, and it auctioned for $6,750 (and of course, that one did not have the great provenance this one does, and it did not come with the signed letter!).

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It was roughly handled while it was rolled, and it now has a series of faint horizontal creases running down the left 6" of the poster, with a very few other creases scattered in the poster. The creases are not very noticeable from any reasonable viewing distance, and otherwise, the poster is in really nice condition. It has never had any sort of restoration! Note that Mr. Trosclair, the security guard who owned this poster, told our consignor that after a promotional event for the movie that was attended by all the stars, Mr. Lucas came over and handed him this poster personally and said "Thanks for doing a great job". So it seems likely that it was Mr. Lucas himself who caused the creases in the poster!
