An Unfolded Music Concert Poster (measures 22" x 30 1/2" [56 x 77 cm]) (Learn More)

A Memorial to Sam Cooke, the 1965 music poster promoting an event which was held in Chattanooga, Tennessee to memorialize Sam Cooke, who died on December 11th, 1964. It is from one year and six days after Mr. Cooke was tragically killed. Obviously, they wanted to honor his passing by holding a memorial concert a year later, and the show was headlined by L.C. Cooke ("brother of the late Sam Cooke"), Johnny 'Guitar' Taylor, Gene Burks (known as 'Mr. Rhythm'), and The Upsetters Band. Of course, Sam Cooke was a legendary black African American singer-songwriter from the 1950s to the 1960s who is commonly referred to as "The King of Soul" and had 30 U.S. top 40 hits between 1957 and 1964. He was shot and beaten to death, under extremely questionable circumstances, by a hotel manager (who claimed self-defense) in Los Angeles, California. If anyone knows more about this event, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that there are many reproduction window cards of appearances by classic 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll performers. However, this is an INCREDIBLY rare original oversized window card! The poster is printed on a heavy board and absolutely must be shipped in a large flat package. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 19 1/2" x 34" [50 x 86 cm].

Condition: good. Most of the left half of the poster is lightly water stained, and it somewhat shows through to the front in various degrees (see our image). There is a 6" crack at top center, with paper loss at the top of the crack that affects the "O" of "TO". There is paper loss in the top corners, and the card is rippled down the left, due to the water staining. The card is fragile, but is an excellent candidate for restoration, and after simple paperbacking, it will look great!
