An Original Vintage Movie Trade Ad (measures 12" x 25 3/4" [30 x 65 cm] when unfolded; 6 pages) (Learn More) Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the classic 1939 William Dieterle romantic love triangle horror melodrama ("Ten times a thousand thrills!"; "BIG beyond words! ...Wondrous beyond belief! ...Magnificent beyond compare!"; adapted from the novel by Victor Hugo) starring Charles Laughton (in the title role as Quasimodo, the hunchback), Cedric Hardwicke (billed as "Sir Cedric Hardwicke"; as Frollo), Thomas Mitchell, Maureen O'Hara (as Esmerelda), Edmond O'Brien (as Gringoire, the poet), Alan Marshal, Walter Hampden, Katharine Alexander, Harry Davenport, Helene Whitney, Katherine Alexander, George Zucco, Fritz Leiber, Etienne Girardot, Minna Gombell, Arthur Hohl, George Tobias, Rod La Rocque, and Spencer Charters. Note that this was a wonderful sound remake of the classic 1923 silent movie starring Lon Chaney Sr. and Patsy Ruth Miller in the lead roles. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: From the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was removed from a yearbook or studio magazine, because the bottom two-thirds is printed on one sheet, and the top one-third is printed on a different sheet, and there is stitching across the top of the bottom two-thirds, indicating it was removed from a book or magazine). The back of this great trade ad tells about the movie (see our images) and it has a tagline pointing to the inside that says "and! Look at the three-sheet sample of the kind of paper available!" So this IS an original 1939 special poster for this classic movie, and it absolutely can be framed and displayed! Condition: good to very good. The top one-third and the bottom two-thirds were printed on separate pieces and removed from a book or magazine (see above). They were glued together and there is some minor wear around the edges and on the folds (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
