An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 30 1/2" x 45 1/4" [77 x 115 cm]) (Learn More) Les Marins de France (literally translates to "The Sailors of France"), the 1917 French silent World War I (WWI) military naval documentary (featuring the French merchant fleet, the launching of a freighter and a submarine, naval weapons, the defenses of the Adriatic coast, submarine operations, and more). Note that this poster is promoting a showing of the film to benefit French sailors and their families. The benefit featured live music and took place on March 4th at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Note that the poster has an artist's signature on it, but we cannot read it. If anyone knows the name of this artist, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this poster ships in a very long tube (at least 33" long, but possibly 50" long or more). Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. You can tell how long of a tube this poster needs to ship in by looking at the shorter dimension of its length and width and then adding 4" to that (so a 47" x 63" poster will need to ship in a 51" long tube). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some tears scattered in the middle right, with a 5" diagonal tear starting from the "L" of "LES" in the title and running into the man's sleeve. It had some faint stains in the background to the right and above the man's hat, with a few scattered in the word "GRANDE" and in the background above it. It had a few other small tears. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
