An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (25" x 39 1/4") (Learn More)

Ladies in Retirement, the 1941 Charles Vidor family relationship mental illness psychological melodrama ("The great Broadway melodrama comes to flaming life on the screen!.."; "The great Broadway Melodramatic hit is even more exciting as a motion picture!"; "The Famous Broadway Stage Hit Becomes A Mighty Screen Triumph!"; "From the Broadway play by Reginald Denham and Edward Percy"; about a young woman who is a secretary to a rich English lady, and her two sisters come to visit for what is to be a short stay, but they basically move in, and when the rich lady wants them to leave, she realizes all three are VERY mentally unbalanced!) starring Ida Lupino, Louis Hayward, Evelyn Keyes, Elsa Lanchester, Edith Barrett, and Isobel Elsom. Note that Lupino & Hayward were married when this film was made.

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked, but not in the usual way (which is an alternate form of restoration that is similar to linenbacking, but involves backing the poster onto Japanese rice paper). THIS poster HAS been mounted onto Japanese rice paper, but it appears that it was done so in preparation to having the poster linenbacked, but that (for unknown reasons) the owner of this poster did not have the job finished, so the poster has solely been mounted on thin Japanese rice paper. However, unlike the other similar paperbacked posters we are selling this week, this particular poster DID have restoration performed after it was backed onto the paper, but oddly, the restorer did NOT replace the missing borders. Also, because the poster is currently mounted onto a thin rice paper, it is fragile, and of course, will need to be sent rolled in a tube (but the poster is somewhat protected by the extra 1" border of rice paper on all four sides). Please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above carefully!

Condition: fair. The poster was mounted on a thin Japanese rice paper . Prior to being paperbacked, the poster had all of its borders trimmed off, and there were tiny areas of paper loss scattered through the poster (including some in the images of all three stars), plus some small paper loss at the crossfolds and in parts of the foldlines. After it was mounted, someone performed restoration to some of the poster's many defects (but they did not do too bad a job, although the restoration is somewhat noticeable, even from a distance). Some of the excess rice paper has been lost in the top right corner, but it is solely the excess paper, and not the poster itself. Please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above carefully!
