Date Sold 4/4/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An French Advertising Poster (measures 34 3/4" x 48 3/4" [88 x 124 cm]) (Learn More) Saxoleine, the circa 1895 French advertisement promoting a brand of lamp oil (called "Safety Oil" in this ad), and featuring art of a woman lighting a lamp by Jules Cheret. Note that this was part of a series of Saxoleine advertising posters featuring pretty women lighting a lamp. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jules Cheret Important Added Info: Note that this poster was mounted onto a heavy board that must be sent flat. We will pack this poster between four super heavy 37" x 51" boards that we have purchased for $5 each, meaning that the cost of packaging this poster is $20 (because of the expense of the large cardboard). VERY IMPORTANT! This poster will likely cost around $100 total to send within the U.S. via ground UPS (but of course, we will only charge the actual cost of shipping) plus the above stated $20 for the packaging materials (we are also auctioning similar size posters that could be packed together with this one, and if so, the shipping per poster will come down drastically). Please bear this shipping cost in mind before placing a bid on this poster (and it would surely cost hundreds of dollars to send it out of the United States, so we ask that no one bid on this poster unless they can accept delivery of it within the U.S.). Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: fair to good. The poster has darkened, more so around the edges, where there are also some stains. The darkening is somewhat uneven (see our image). The poster is mounted to a heavy board, and while it can be removed and linenbacked, bear this expense in mind (and the expense of shipping) before bidding on this poster.
