An Original 1956 Vintage Theatrical Folded Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Gycklarnas Afton (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "Sawdust and Tinsel" and "The Naked Night"), the classic 1953 Ingmar Bergman Swedish circus romantic love triangle infidelity melodrama ("The girl that will have the whole town talking!") starring Harriet Andersson (billed as "introducing Harriet Andersson exciting new continental discovery"), Ake Gronberg, Hasse Ekman, Anders Ek, Gudrun Brost, and Annika Tretow. Note that when Ingmar Bergman became famous worldwide in the late 1950s after the release of "The Seventh Seal", his earlier movies were released or re-released with English language titles. I have always seen this movie referred to as "Sawdust and Tinsel", but I have never seen a vintage movie poster with that title. The movie WAS released in the U.S. in 1956 under the title "The Naked Night", but no one I know refers to it in that way. Therefore, we are listing this movie as Sawdust and Tinsel, even though we have not auctioned any posters with that title, because people know what movie we are referring to!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 30x40! In addition, we have only auctioned three U.S. half-sheets and one lobby card, so it is possible that one-sheets were not made for this title. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that most 30x40s from this period were printed on a heavy stock and usually only sent to theaters rolled. However, the studios would also sometimes make special 30x40s that were created on a somewhat thinner paper and were folded when they were created. We can't say for certain that this poster was sent to theaters folded, but it is printed on a "one-sheet-like" paper, so we think that is very likely.

Condition: very good to fine.
