Date Sold 7/19/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Undated (probably late 1950s; likely from the first release of this movie in Singapore) Vintage Folded Singapore Movie Poster (measures 21 1/2" x 31" [55 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) The Bohemian Girl, the 1936 James W. Horne & Charles Rogers historical European royalty gypsy romantic musical screwball comedy ("90 mad, merry musical moments!"; "Based on the Opera by Balfe"; produced by Hal Roach, who also an uncredited director and writer!; about two very bumbling gypsies, one of whose wives steals the infant daughter of a nobleman, and they raise her as their own, and only when she grows up does she learn of her royal birth) starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy), Thelma Todd (her final screen appearance before her mysterious death), Antonio Moreno, Mae Busch, and Darla Hood. Note that when this movie was made, "gypsies" were a stereotype villain in movies of this sort. Fortunately, in recent years, great efforts have been made to eliminate these stereotypes, and even the word "gypsy" itself has been mostly eliminated, replaced by "Romani". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair. The poster was incredibly oddly printed (not so surprising, given that it was printed in Singapore, and we didn't even know they printed movie posters in the 1950s!). It appears that it was originally printed with a large rectangular blank area at the bottom, no doubt so that theaters could print play dates. But the poster was folded like a U.S. one-sheet, and after it was folded, it not only acquired paper loss and separation at the top and bottom crossfolds, but it also acquired quite a bit of ink transfer (no doubt because the poster was stored in humid conditions). Someone put some tape repairs on the back of parts of the folds where there was separation, but did no other attempt at restoration. Please read our description above and look closely at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster, which may be the only Singapore Laurel & Hardy poster you will ever see!
