An Original 1927 (from the first release of this movie in Germany) Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 37 1/2" x 56" [95 x 142 cm]) (Learn More)

Po Zakonu (released in English-speaking countries as "By The Law"), the 1926 Lev Kuleshov Russian silent Alaska Yukon gold madness crime melodrama (based on the story "The Unexpected" by Jack London; about five people prospecting for gold in the Yukon, and one man goes crazy and kills two of the others, and the remaining two, a husband and wife, subdue the killer and tie him up, but then they must make the difficult decision of whether they should execute him on the spot, or try to take him back to civilization for trial, knowing that he will be trying to escape the entire way, and possibly kill them!) starring Aleksandra Khokhlova, Sergey Komarov, Vladimir Fogel, Pyotr Galadzhev, and Porfiri Podobed. Note that Jack London was very famous for his Alaska stories like "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang", but he was also very controversial for his socialist views, especially those detailed in his 1907 book "The Iron Heel". Since there was a socialist revolution in Russia in 1915, it is natural that he would be very popular in Russia, but this movie apparently did not get released in the U.S., perhaps because of its controversial content!

Artist: W. Dietrich
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this German poster (and it is also the only movie paper of any kind we have ever auctioned)! This is a very rare poster from Germany from before World War II. There are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums.

Condition: very good. The poster has 2" of separation and tiny paper loss at the top left and right crossfolds, and tiny separation and tiny paper loss at the other crossfolds. There is some discoloration in the bottom left. Overall, it has likely survived in about as good condition as one could hope (see our image)!
