A Linenbacked Italian Special Poster (measures 39 1/2" x 55 1/4" [100 x 140 cm]) (Learn More)

La Sorte Dell'Europa E Segnata (literally translates to "The Fate of Europe is Sealed"), the 1950 Italian poster (with taglines that translate to "The Fate of Europe is Sealed. No! The Federal Union between the democratic countries of Europe will give us strength, freedom, well-being.") featuring a comparison of manpower along with coal and steel production between a European Federation, the Soviet Union and the United States. This poster features art of a ball knocking down pins representing the European countries. This poster seems to be promoting the Council of Europe, which was created in 1949 as an international organization to uphold human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe. Some of the themes of this poster also suggest a future connection to the European Coal and Steel Community which was created in 1955. Alcide De Gasperi from Italy, Jean Monnet and Robert Schuman from France, and Paul-Henri Spaak from Belgium understood that coal and steel were the two industries essential for waging war, and believed that by tying their national industries together, future war between their nations became much less likely.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Italian poster!
