An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 140 pages) (Learn More) Born on the Fourth of July, the 1989 Oliver Stone (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) paralyzed-military-soldier-returns-from-Vietnam War melodrama ("A true story of innocence lost and courage found."; "Based on the book by Ron Kovic", which told his real life story which was dramatized in this movie; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Tom Cruise (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Kyra Sedgwick, Raymond J. Barry, Jerry Levine, Frank Whaley, Willem Dafoe, Bryan Larkin, Caroline Kava, Tom Berenger, and Vivica A. Fox NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script is the revised draft from August 1988 and the screenplay was written by Oliver Stone & Ron Kovic. The script has a fascinating history to it! This movie begun in 1979, when the director was William Friedkin, and the star was Al Pacino. Rehearsals on the movie began, but then Friedkin dropped out, and Daniel Petrie was hired, but then the financing for the movie was lost, and the production was abandoned. In 1988, Oliver Stone decided to revive the project, and he started with the original 1979 script, but massively changed it, inserting a multitude of different colored revision pages from many different dates from between 9/25/88 and 10/3/88 (apparently this new version of the script was revised over and over, which must have driven the actors crazy!). Also included is a page bound into the beginning of the script, which changes the names of nine of the minor characters in the movie (perhaps the names were originally those of the real life people that Ron Kovic interacted with, but likely those names had to be changed when they could not get releases from those people).
