An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Sins of the Fathers, the 1928 Ludwig Berger family relationship romantic bootlegging alcohol melodrama ("Story by Norman Burnstine"; about a man who is a waiter, and he has a family and owns the restaurant, but then he gets a mistress and his wife finds out and dies, and he becomes a bootlegger and is caught and sent to jail after his own son is blinded from drinking his moonshine, and when he gets out of jail, he gets a job as a waiter again, and the movie ends with him meeting his son, who forgives him, and who has regained his sight) starring Emil Jannings, Ruth Chatterton (in her very first movie after a successful stage career, and she has the starring role, and she was 35 at the time), Barry Norton, Jean Arthur, and Jack Luden. Note that this movie was one of the first silent movies to have some sound in it (it had singing sequences and sound effects, but was otherwise silent).

Important Added Info: Note that this card has been graded and authenticated by mpgrading.com. This means that a corner of the card has been "encrypted with a unique 9-digit serial number with invisible DNA-laced ink", which can be seen with a special scanner, and this info has been attached to a separate Certificate of Authenticity. On that certificate, the card ha been given a grade of "very fine- (8)-RG", but of course, that grading scale is not the same as ours, and on ours, we grade this card as "good" (see below). Also note that this poster has been paperbacked.

What IS paperbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. This card was originally trimmed at the top and had been linenbacked. Someone removed the card from the linen and then had it paperbacked. Prior to paperbacking, the card had its blank top trimmed and there were tears and areas of paper loss around the edges with white dot staining down the left 2" of the card. There were tears in Jannings' chin and a hole in his forehead, with some scratch marks in the middle of his credit. The person who paperbacked the card did only very slight restoration to the above defects, other than recreating the missing top blank area. At some point after it was paperbacked, it was roughly handled, and it now has a 2" tear in the lower left black background area, extending into the edge of the arm of the Devil. Overall, while the card's defects are still noticeable, they are not all that distracting, and of course, while one would prefer a better example of this card, it is incredibly rare, and this card (even with its defects) displays pretty well!
