An Original 1921 (from the first release of this movie in ) Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari (released in the U.S. in 1921 and in England in 1924 as "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari"), the 1920 Robert Wiene German expressionism silent horror thriller ("A thrilling fantastic photo-play"; about a man who sleepwalks in a disturbing world and there is a mysterious Dr. Caligari who seems to be his arch enemy!) starring Werner Krauss (in the title role as Doctor Caligari), Conrad Veidt (as Cesare, the somnambulist), Friedrich Feher, Lil Dagover, and Hans Heinrich von Twardowski. Note that this movie is considered by many to be the first major horror movie ever. Much of the movie takes place within the dreams of the sleepwalker, and the sets are distorted to reflect his distorted mind (they were made of paper and the shadows were painted on to the paper!) Important Added Info: Note that for many horror/sci-fi collectors, this title is the "Holy Grail", both because of its immense importance in the history of horror/sci-fi/fantasy, and also because original release items are so incredibly rare! Over the years, we have had two different one-sheets from the U.S. release and a complete set of lobby cards, but NOTHING else, and we had those items between 1990 and 1996! Now we have been consigned a first release 1921 U.S. glass slide, with an incredible different image we have not seen before. It may well be a decade or more before we are consigned another first release item from this movie! Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good to fine. The slide has "NEXT WED. - THURS." written in white paint on the outside of the top piece of glass and there are a few dabs of paint in the lower left border, but otherwise, the slide is in virtually perfect condition (of course, the white paint could be easily removed, because it is on the outside of the slide, but I think it is part of the incredible history of this slide, although the new owner will make their own decision!).
