Date Sold 5/27/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Contract (measures 9" x 13" [23 x 33 cm]; 13 pages) (Learn More) Ronald Colman was an English-born actor from the 1910s to the 1950s. He was a major leading male star for nearly 20 years. Some of his movies include: Bulldog Drummond (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Random Harvest (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Condemned (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), A Tale of Two Cities, Double Life (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Lost Horizon, and the Prisoner of Zenda AND Samuel Goldwyn (born "Szmuel Gelbfisz"; it was Americanized to Samuel Goldfish) was a producer and studio executive from the 1910s to 1953. He was a founder of Paramount, Goldwyn Pictures (which eventually became MGM) and Samuel Goldwyn Studios. He is famous for his many quotable statements such as "Include me out"! He was producer of many of the top movies of the 1930s and 1940s. Early in his career, he was a major executive at Paramount, helping Adolph Zukor gain control of the company. In 1916, they had a falling out, and he started a new company with the Selwyn brothers, successful Broadway producers, and they named it "Goldwyn", as a combination of "Goldfish" and "Selwyn", and he was able to gain control of the studio away from the Selwyns, who complained that he "stole everything, including their name"! Important Added Info: Note that this contract (which is an agreement in which Samuel Goldwyn hired Ronald Colman to work for him for $1,250 per week for the first year, and $1,750 for the second year) has been personally autographed (signed) by BOTH Ronald Colman AND Samuel Goldwyn! Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the signatures to be authentic. Note that this really cool 13-page contract from 1924 has been signed by both the legendary producer and this equally legendary actor. The contract has many corrections scattered throughout, and every one of them has been hand initialed by both Goldwyn and Colman. There is even a glued over section on page 9, where Colman was originally going to get up to 24 weeks of unpaid vacation during the year, and that portion of the page was crossed out and a new typed version was glued over it, which lowers that amount to 12 weeks. What a cool piece of film history! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good. The pages of the contract are in pretty nice condition and the signature page is especially nice. The brown paper cover sheet has tears and small paper loss around the edges (see our images).
