An Original Vintage Folded English World War II Poster (measures 19 1/4" x 30" [49 x 76 cm]) (Learn More)

Don't Do It Mother: Leave the Children Where They Are, the circa 1940 (either 1940 or 1941) English World War II (WWII) poster ("Take Them Back! Take Them Back! Take Them Back!") encouraging parents to keep their evacuated children away from London and other city areas that could be prone to air raids and featuring art of a worried mother sitting with two children in the countryside with a shadowy Adolf Hitler whispering in her ear to take the children back to the city (featuring barrage balloons) in the background. In 1940, many English people were dubious about the reality of Germany attacking them across the English channel, and they were very reluctant to send their children to live with relatives in the country. But after London Blitz air raids of late 1940, posters like this were created and circulated everywhere, because both the government and the general population took the risk to their children seriously. Note that this poster was originally printed with the tagline "Don't do it, Mother - Leave the children where they are", but someone realized that this did not send a clear message (because some children were still in the cities), so a large snipe was created that changed the end of the tagline to "Leave your children where in the safer areas", which was more clear, if less eloquent!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good to very good. The poster has a large snipe glued over the bottom, but this was added when the poster was created . There are ripples in the bottom of the poster caused by the glue from the snipe. There are pinholes in the top corners, with a 2 1/2" tear in the top right corner, caused by rough removal of the pins, and some faint smudges scattered in the image. None of the above interferes with displaying this wonderful image.
