Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The blank borders of the poster were trimmed off. It had small paper loss at the crossfolds and creases and scattered small tears on the vertical foldline (some of them repaired with small tape from the back), with a lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds and some creases, scuffs, and small tears scattered in the image, and pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A talented restorer linenbacked the poster and replaced the blank borders, but oddly, the poster now measures 26 1/4" x 39 1/4". The most likely explanation for this is that they located another Grand National poster from this year and used those blank borders (including the writing at the bottom) to put around this trimmed poster, and likely that poster had a slightly larger image area than this one, which would explain why this now measures smaller. But the restoration was overall nicely done, and this poster will display really well on anyone's wall! Learn More about condition grades
