A 1962 Re-release (from the first Japanese re-release) Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20" x 28 1/2") (Learn More) Rashomon (released in the U.S. in 1952 as "Rasho-mon"), the classic 1950 Akira Kurosawa Japanese murder mystery crime thriller ("Acclaimed the best picture of the year from any country"; "Winner of the grand prize 1951 Venice Film Festival"; "The great and exciting Japanese production which brings a new experience in the cinema."; where a killing is shown from four different points of view, with wildly different versions) starring Toshiro Mifune, Machiko Kyo (billed as "...introducing the beautiful Machiko Kyo"), Masayuki Mori, Takashi Shimura, and Minoru Chiaki NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that studio posters from the first release of this classic movie in 1950 are virtually unknown (there are "countryside" posters, made for local theaters, and we sold one of those, and those too are extremely scarce). The very first re-release of this movie in Japan was in 1962, and while posters from subsequent re-releases are not that difficult to find, posters from this 1962 re-release are extremely scarce. This is the very first time we have ever offered this 1962 re-release B2 poster! This poster was tri-folded only (which means there is no vertical machine fold) but because it would be more expensive to send flat, it will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. Someone put seven pieces of tape on the back of small tears in the borders, and they also put two pieces of 1" x 3" tape on the back of two tears in the center of the poster in Mifune's arm and in the girl's hand. All nine pieces of tape darkened considerably and bled through to the front (this well illustrates why amateurs should never attempt to "repair" posters, because the tape bleed through is a greater problem than the tears they were designed to repair!). Other than the tape bleed through, the poster has several additional horizontal foldlines and some tiny tears in the borders and a pinhole in each corner, with paper loss in the bottom right blank corner where the pin was roughly removed. Obviously, this poster has very real defects, but it is also true that a talented restorer can paperback or linenback the poster, and after proper restoration of the tape bleed through, the small tears, and the tiny paper loss in the bottom right corner, this great poster will look fantastic, and will display wonderfully on anyone's wall!
