Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (measures approximately 15" x 40") (Learn More) The Past of Mary Holmes, the 1933 Harlan Thompson & Slavko Vorkapich romantic infidelity family relationship murder mystery melodrama ("Their guiltless love blasted by a mother's bitter years!"; "Thrilling drama of young love shadowed by a mother's hate!"; "From the story, 'The Goose Woman' by Rex Beach"; about a washed up aging opera star who accuses her own son of murder, in order to return her to the limelight; apparently, she blamed her son for causing the end of her career, because the experience of childbirth somehow ruined her voice!; her son has a beautiful girlfriend, played by a young Jean Arthur!) starring Helen MacKellar (in the title role as Mary Holmes), Eric Linden, Jean Arthur, Richard 'Skeets' Gallagher, J. Carrol Naish, and Rochelle Hudson. Note that this movie was very loosely based on one of the most memorable crimes of the early 20th century, which occurred in 1922 when a minister and a woman who sang in his choir were found murdered together, and evidence was found at the scene that showed they had been having an affair. If that wasn't strange enough, a woman appeared who said she witnessed the murder, and because she raised pigs, she was called "The Pig Woman" by the press, and after many conflicting stories, she was shown to be completely lying, but the public was enthralled with the case for quite some time (although strangely, the case was never solved). Noted author Rex Beach based his book "The Goose Woman" loosely on this case, but changing several important details in order to avoid being sued, and of course, Hollywood made it into a sensational movie!
