Artist: Frank McCarthy Important Added Info: Note that subway posters were always printed in advance of a movie playing at a theater. But in the case of this subway, it had a special way that it was intended to be used! Theaters were sent four of them, one with the bottom three right sections overprinted with black and then the next one with the bottom two overprinted, and then the third one with the bottom one, and then finally one with no overprinting, and it was intended that they would first display only the one showing the "FIRST" section, and then the one showing both the "FIRST" and "THEN" sections, etc. Doing it this way a week at a time, they could spend an entire month building interest in this new Bond movie! This poster has not been overprinted at all (which certainly makes it far more attractive to display). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 9" tear and a 6" tear in the middle of the left border, going through the word "IS". It had a 2" tear in the middle of the right border. It had a faint stain in the top center, in the white background area, and a few faint smudges in the white background areas, with a small brown stain in the lower left blank border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
