An Original Vintage Unfolded Special Promotional Movie Poster (measures 17 3/4" x 26 3/4" [45 x 68 cm]) (Learn More) The Shape of Water, the 2017 Guillermo del Toro (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Canadian/U.S. romantic fantasy adventure horror melodrama (winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Sally Hawkins (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Doug Jones (as the Amphibian Man creature), Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very special promotional poster that was created as a special promotional item for this most unusual movie. It is a "faux" poster created to look like it is a historical poster created many years ago, showing "Anatomy of Homo Piscis" (which is the creature from the movie), and it is set up like an old fashioned anatomy chart from a doctor's office. The poster itself is printed on a canvas material that has been artificially "aged" to make it look old. It has wooden pieces attached to the top and bottom of the poster with screws, and the bottom wood has a metal plate attached to the middle and within the plate "Dr. Guillermo del Toro"! There is a string attached to the top piece of wood to allow it to be hung. The poster rolls and comes in a specially made tube designed to hold it which has two stickers attached to it with the name of the movie, the year of "1962" (when the movie is set, the name of the director and "Classified". Included with the poster is a 8 1/4" x 11 3/4" "memo", printed on artificially aged paper which purports to be a "confidential memorandum" about "a new discovery in London" and describing the recent discovery of a vivisection of a fish-man which confirms that the government was not the "first to encounter such a species" (see our image). The ends of the tube have a printed space image with "Department of Defense Aerospace Research" in a circle around it. This is surely one of the most elaborate "faux" posters we have ever seen! Because it comes in its own specially created tube, it will need to be sent separate from other purchases, by itself (and we will put the entire tube inside of a larger tube).
UPDATED 05/10/2019: Note that we have corrected a measurement typo in the Auction Title. Note that this item is one of 221 items we are currently auctioning. All 221 items are special promotional items that were sent by movie studios to theaters, reviewers, and others in the movie business, to try to get them to either book their movies, or to publicize their movies. Included in these items are many promotional t-shirts, jackets, backpacks, baseball caps, keychains, pens, and many other items! All are personalized with the logo of a specific movie. We don't know if some of these items were also sold commercially, but we do know that all of these items were sent directly to a man in the movie business, who has consigned them to us. Surely many of these are very difficult to obtain, and we will combine as many purchases as possible into a single package. We have not auctioned many of these special movie promotional items in the past, and this is a rare opportunity to acquire a number of them, all at one time! Condition: fine. The poster is in wonderful condition. The tube has only some general wear but it is otherwise in excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
