An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 13 1/2" x 20 1/2" [34 x 52 cm]) (Learn More)

Nelson A. Rockefeller (one of the sons of John Rockefeller, the famous oil man and founder of Standard Oil) was a businessman and politician from the 1930s to 1979. He served as the Governor of New York from 1959 to 1973. Rockefeller could well have been one of the United States Presidents! What do we mean? In 1968, Robert Kennedy was almost a certainty to become the Democratic presidential candidate, and the Republican party did not want a repeat of the 1960 election, with another "Kennedy/Nixon" election, fearing that Nixon would surely lose to the charismatic Bobby Kennedy, and so many within the Republican party were strongly advocating Nelson Rockefeller as the Republican candidate, but then Bobby Kennedy was assassinated, and it then became far more reasonable for Nixon to be nominated, and he was, and he became President, and Rockefeller never got to run as the Republican candidate. However, in 1974, he served as Vice President of the United States under President Gerald Ford. Rockefeller passed away in 1979 at the age of 70.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is clearly from one of the governor's re-election campaigns, which occurred in 1962, 1966, and 1970. We don't know which of those three years this poster is from, but we feel strongly that it is likely from either 1962 or 1966. If anyone knows more about when this poster is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster is printed on a heavier weight paper stock, similar to that of window cards of this time period. It cannot be rolled and sent in a tube, so it will need to be sent in a large flat package.

Condition: very good.
