Auction History Result h001 MYSTERIOUS DOCTOR SATAN 15 one-sheet movie posters & 32 movie lobby cards '40 Date Sold 10/30/2007Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 15 Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Posters (each measures 27" x 41"); 32 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (each measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Mysterious Doctor Satan, the 1940 John English & William Witney masked super hero mad scientist science fiction (sci-fi) horror serial ("A Republic Serial in 15 Chapters") starring Eduardo Ciannelli (billed as "Edward Ciannelli"; in the title role as Doctor Satan), Robert Wilcox (as Bob Wayne, and also as "Copperhead", the mysterious masked super hero), William Newell, C. Montague Shaw, Ella Neal, Dorothy Herbert, William Whitney, John English, and Jack Mulhall. Note that posters and lobby cards from this serial have always been popular, both because it is a science fiction serial with a masked super hero (he has a secret identity of "Bob Wayne", and it is not hard to guess where they got that name from!), and because it has a great funky robot that appears prominently on all of the posters! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extraordinary group of material from this movie! Over 40 years ago, our consignor went into a poster exchange and purchased one each of ALL the different material that that exchange had on this movie. He obtained the different chapter posters from all 15 chapters of the serial, plus the following lobby cards: a complete set of 4 full-color chapter #1 lobby cards, a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #2, a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #5, a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #6, a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #7, a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #8, a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #9, and a complete set of 4 cards from chapter #10, 32 lobby cards in all! Almost every one of the items in this group are in wonderful condition (see below). It is unlikely that such a near-complete offering of posters and lobby cards could be found from virtually any other serial. I have seen several dealers selling single chapter one-sheets from this serial for $1,500! Condition: fine. All of the 15 one-sheets were completely unused when the consignor obtained them. The chapter #2 one-sheet was folded slightly irregularly, and for that reason, acquired tears in the left half of the middle foldline (mostly in the pants of the man at left), and that poster has separation in the vertical foldline between the middle and bottom crossfolds. The other 14 posters are in really wonderful condition, with only the slightest signs of aging, mostly along the edges of the poster that were on the outside when it sat fully folded all these years. The lobby cards are in excellent condition. The set of 4 color cards from chapter #1 has pinholes in the corners, a crease in each of the top blank corners, and some minor border defects, and the cards from the other seven sets have the most minor of border defects.
