A 1957 Re-Release Theatrical Folded Czechoslovakian Movie Poster (measures 11 3/4" x 32 1/2" [30 x 83 cm]) (Learn More) Bila Nemoc (released in the U.S. as "Skeleton on Horseback"), the 1937 Hugo Haas Czechoslovakian science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy war disease melodrama (about a mythical European country where an epidemic has killed a lot of the population; a doctor discovers a cure, but tells the dictator of the country that he will only allow the cure to be used if the dictator ceases making war on other countries; the dictator refuses, and the doctor withholds the cure, and many people die) starring Hugo Haas, Bedrich Karen, Zdenek Stepanek, Vaclav Vydra, and Frantisek Smolik. Note that star/director Hugo Haas wrote the screenplay for this movie based on a play by Karel Capek (best remembered as the author of "R.U.R.", the first literary mention of robots), and this movie was obviously intended as an allegory against Hitler and fascism. When Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia right after the movie was made, Haas fled to the United States, but he never achieved prominence in movies, although he is well remembered for directing a series of movies about an old man in love with a young beautiful woman (starring Haas himself, with a series of "bad girls", including Cleo Moore)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jaroslav Pribramsky Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Czech movie! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
