Original Vintage Theatrical Stage Play Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More)

The Cocoanuts, the 1929 Robert Florey & Joseph Santley Florida hotel crime musical screwball comedy ("A Paramount Talking & Singing Production"; with music by Irving Berlin; the Marx Bros run a hotel in Florida during the great land rush of the 1920s) starring The Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx, Zeppo Marx, Harpo Marx, and Chico Marx), Oscar Shaw, Mary Eaton, Cyril Ring, Kay Francis, and Margaret Dumont. Note that this was The Marx Bros. first movie, and Paramount did not feel certain they would be successful, so a large portion of the advertising did not show the Marx Brothers!

Condition: fair to good. This window card was found in the back of a frame. It had had portions of the top and left trimmed off so that it fit the frame (it was used as a backing board!). Fortunately, the areas that were trimmed were not major parts of the image or text, and included all of the top blank area. Below, we have put a second scan of the card which has lines on it that show roughly the areas that were recreated. In addition to recreating those areas there were some holes in the bottom of the card and some tears in the right border. There was an irregular 4" tear in the "legs" of the middle two brothers, a hole to the right of Groucho's left foot, and a larger hole in the blank background area below Groucho's left foot. The restoration was performed by Studio C, my favorite restorer (although it was done by a previous owner of the card). Studio C had a photo of the complete card and masterfully replaced the missing areas and repaired the small holes and tears. The restoration is really wonderful and I doubt many people could possibly know that the missing areas were replaced, even looking at the card from inches away! However, please do not bid on this card unless you can accept the amount of restoration it has had.
