An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded INCOMPLETE Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 53 3/4" [104 x 137 cm]) (Learn More)

Think Fast, Mr. Moto, the 1937 Norman Foster Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Meet Mr. Moto the foxiest detective of them all!"; "Based on a story by J.P. Marquand") starring Peter Lorre (in "yellowface" makeup in the title role as Mr. Moto), Virginia Field, Thomas Beck, Sig Ruman (billed as "Sig Rumann"), Lotus Long, and J. Carrol Naish. Note that this was the very first of this popular series. Fox had had great success with its Chinese detective, Charlie Chan, so it seemed natural for them to start a second series featuring a Japanese detective. It did not start until 1937, perhaps because they did not have an actor suitable for the lead role, but Peter Lorre had substance abuse issues, and he was probably happy to get the work. Fox made seven movies in just three years, but then they stopped the series, likely because of the rise of anti-Japanese sentiment in the U.S., as World War II neared.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that only the top 2/3 of this poster is present. It was printed in 2 pieces. One had the top 2/3 of the poster and the other had the bottom 1/3, AND THAT BOTTOM 1/3 PIECE IS MISSING. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept that only 2/3 of the poster is present! Note that it is very fortunate that the portion of the poster that is present contains the title and the majority of the image!

Condition: poor to fair. Only the top two-thirds is present (see above). It has tack holes around the edges, with some clear tape on the back of parts of the borders and some light water stains scattered throughout. But since it contains Lorre's image and credit, plus the entire title, one could certainly frame it (probably after linenbacking it) just as it is, and have a cool incomplete poster to display!
