Date Sold 1/29/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Der Ewige Jude (released in English-speaking countries as "The Eternal Jew"), the 1940 Fritz Hippler German anti-Semitic pseudo-documentary melodrama (this was the pet project of Joseph Goebbels, and it presented the Nazi viewpoint of why the Jewish people needed to be exterminated; it has a sequence that compares Jews to rats and calls them the "vermin" of the human population, and shows a sequence of Jewish men slaughtering a cow, among many other biased sequences, and it closes with a speech by Adolf Hitler calling for the extermination of all Jews!) featuring uncredited actors and documentary footage of real-life Jewish celebrities including Curt Bois, Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin), Albert Einstein, Adolf Hitler, Fritz Kortner, and Peter Lorre. The movie shows the tremendous power of film to influence audiences, and was an important part of the Nazi plan to get the German people to accept the extermination of the entire Jewish population of Germany, Poland, and other countries. I am quite happy that I cannot read German, for I doubt I would want to read the text contained within this program, but it certainly is an important historical document! Note that this is a "conditional" movie. This refers to around 40 movies that were made in Germany between 1933 and 1945, during the time the Nazis were in power in Germany. These movies are considered to be propaganda movies, which glorify the Nazi regime and their ideals. Immediately after World War II, a list of over 100 movies that were made between 1933 and 1945 was created, and those movies were not allowed to be shown at any time in Germany or Austria. Over the next decade, around 60 of those movies were taken off the list so that they are allowed to be shown (but rarely are), and those movies are known as "forbidden movies", because even though they can now be shown, they could not be shown at all in the years right after World War II. The remaining 40 or so movies (including this one) are known as "conditional" movies, because they are still not allowed to be shown in Germany or Austria, even in the present day, with the sole exception being when they are shown in an educational context, like at a university, and a speaker talks before and after the movie. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
