Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the most unusual posters you will ever see! Most people don't realize it, but many posters that were on heavier paper stock (half-sheets, inserts, lobby cards, etc) were printed together on large sheets and then trimmed afterwards. For example, an entire set of eight lobby cards would be printed on a single sheet, and then the sheet would be trimmed into the eight single cards. This was done because it was far less expensive to print this way than to print everything individually. The only limitation was how big a sheet could be placed in the printing press! The printers would join together different sizes into a single sheet whenever possible. In the case of this poster, It has an insert with a mini window card turned on its side beneath it (because the mini window card's height is the same as the insert's width). There may well have been two of each of these originally printed together, and then trimmed down the middle. BUT YOU VIRTUALLY NEVER SEE THESE UNTRIMMED POSTERS, BECAUSE NO ONE EVER THOUGHT TO SAVE THEM! The collector who owned this thought it was so interesting that he had it all paperbacked together, but it would be incredibly simple for a professional (or talented amateur) to separate the two posters, and then one would have a paperbacked insert and a paperbacked mini window card, but that seems to be a shame, but it will be the choice of the new owner of this fascinating oddity! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards.

Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. If it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube (like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had many horizontal creases, scuffs, tears, and stains scattered throughout. Someone had the poster paperbacked, but they did not do much restoration to the poster, and it was surely roughly handled since it was backed, and there are now new creases, tears, and tiny paper loss in the top 3" of the poster and across the top of the image, running through the stars' faces (see our image). Certainly, it would be wise to perform additional restoration to this poster.
