Complete Set of 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14") (Learn More)

The Third Man (also released as "The 3rd Man"), the classic 1949 Carol Reed (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English Vienna Austria crime film noir murder mystery mistaken identity thriller ("Cats loved him... And so did Women!"; "What a chase he led them!"; "He'll put you in a dither with his Zither"; based on a story "by Graham Greene"; "Hunted by men... Sought by women!"; "Presented by Alexander Korda and David O. Selznick"; about a man going to visit his old friend in post-War Vienna, and when he gets there, he discovers that the friend is dead, or is he?) starring Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli (billed as "Valli"), Orson Welles (even though Welles only appears in a small portion of the movie, he dominates it!), Trevor Howard, Bernard Lee, Paul Horbiger, and Hedwig Bleibtreu. Note that the musical score for this movie was by Austrian zither musician Anton Karas, and it was so memorable that they even made a tagline about it ("He'll put you in a dither with his Zither"). Also note that this was intended to be the first of several movies with producers David Selznick and Alexander Korda, but the men clashed frequently during the making of the movie, and they never worked together again. Also note that Orson Welles clashed with director Carol Reed, and reportedly, he wrote much of his character's dialog in the movie, and made other contributions to the script that likely drove Reed crazy!

Condition: very good to fine. overall, the cards are in nice condition. All have some light smudging around the edges of the cards, extending into the yellow border area, but it is not very noticeable or distracting. The card with the close-up of Welles has a clean 1" tear in the top border just extending into the background. It has a tiny chip in the left of the bottom blank border, and two extremely tiny tears in the right blank border. It has a pair of staple holes in Welles' hair, but they are truly not noticeable (I had to look at the back of the card to find them). The card with the close up of Welles and Cotten has brown tape on the back of the bottom and right borders, but it does not affect the front. It has faint vertical creases in the top half of the card which I only noticed when I turned the card over. The card with Valli, Howard, and the policeman has a 1" tear on the top blank border. The card with the close up of Valli and Cotten has a 1/4" tear in the middle of the right border and a pinhole in the right border. The card with Welles in the sewer has brown tape on the back of the top and right borders, but it does not affect the front. It has no pinholes. The card with Valli, Cotten, and Howard has a tiny area of paper loss in the bottom right between the "4" and "9" of "49" in the NSS number. The card with a close up of Valli is in really nice condition except for the smudging that is on all the cards. The card with Valli, Howard, Cotten, and a policeman has four pairs of staple holes in the center of the top of the image area. Note that this set is in better condition than the above makes it sound! It was sold to its present owner as being in "near mint" condition, and the above defects are basically minor. If one wanted to, a professional restorer could remove (or greatly reduce) the smudges that are in the borders, but they are truly not very noticeable or distracting from any distance away!
