An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60" [102 x 152 cm]) (Learn More) Cartoon Carnival, the 1953 animated animation cartoon comedy compilation ("Special matinee! Sunday October 25th"; "One hour") starring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Mighty Mouse, Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Dinky Duck, and Dimwit. Because it does not have a studio name, it is not clear who created it, but it is the first U.S. poster we have seen that combines classic cartoon characters from multiple studios that is NOT a "local theater" poster. It has an NSS stamp in the bottom, indicating it was distributed through National Screen Service, which means this "Cartoon Carnival" was distributed nationwide, but this is the only poster we have ever seen from it (we have seen a "Popeye Cartoon Carnival" and a "Cartoon Carnival" of MGM cartoons, but they are definitely not this). What is especially wonderful about this poster is that it includes the best Walt Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy), the best remembered Paramount character (Popeye), the best remembered MGM characters (Tom & Jerry), the best remembered Warner Bros character (Bugs Bunny), and even the no longer well remembered Terrytoon characters (Mighty Mouse, Dinky Duck & Dimwit). Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has a 2" tear in the right of the top border and it has some smudges and darkening in the borders and light background areas. It has a few creases and scuffs scattered in the image, and a few tiny tears in the rest of the borders. Someone put two pieces of conservation tape on the back of the bottom right blank corner, where a diagonal piece was separating, but otherwise, it has had no restoration of any kind. The poster can be displayed and enjoyed exactly as it is, or certainly, one could choose to have restoration performed.
