An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Black Gold, the 1927 Richard E. Norman silent black African American oil exploration romantic cowboy western ("Thrilling epic of the Oil Fields"; "A Story of the Texas Oil Fields"; "Action! Love! Thrills!"; "One of the true stories of living colored examples."; "A Stirring epic of the Oil Fields"; "Produced by Norman Studios, Arlington, FLA."; "With An All-Colored Cast"; "All Colored Cast"; "The sensational western is here") starring Lawrence Criner, Kathryn Boyd, Steve Reynolds ("Peg"), L.B. Tatums, Alfred Norcom, and "the entire All-Colored City of Tatums, Oklahomo [sic]". Note that a knowledgeable collector tells us that Richard E. Norman, who was a white man, not only produced this film but also directed it even though he is not credited on the poster or IMDb. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has writing in the bottom blank border. Normally, one would have a restorer remove that writing before backing the poster, but in this case, because the writing shows where the poster was used ("DEERFIELD COLORED SCHOOL ONE NIGHT ONLY WEDNESDAY FEB. 24th"), we think it ADDS to the poster, and we think many people would choose to not have it "restored" (but of course, that is up to the new owner of the poster to decide). Condition: good. There are pieces of paper tape in the corners and in the lower left and right blank borders, and paper loss in the center of the top blank border. There is writing in the bottom blank border and a 3" tear near the middle of the bottom border. There is separation and tiny paper loss at the top crossfold. There are a few tiny dot stains scattered on the back of the poster, some of which slightly show through to the front. There are some scuffs in the top solid red heart area, which is a minor printing defect. While this poster has clear defects, a talented restorer can easily mend them, and afterwards, the poster will look fantastic, with very little paint restoration needed in the image.
