An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Paper Banner (measures 24" x 82" [61 x 208 cm]) (Learn More)

The Quiet Man, the classic 1952 John Ford (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Ireland romantic wedding courtship dowry comedy melodrama ("John Ford's Greatest Triumph"; "Produced by Merian C. Cooper"; "They call him the 'Quiet' Man-But There's the devil-to-pay when his fiery redhead decides to run things her way!"; "Story by Maurice Walsh"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about an American boxer who had been born in Ireland, and, after an accident in the ring causes him to retire from boxing, he returns to the tiny Irish town where he was born, hoping to quietly settle down, but when he buys the land his family used to own, he gets into conflict with a local laird, and this is complicated by his falling in love with the man's sister) starring John Wayne (as Sean Thornton), Maureen O'Hara (as Mary Kate Danaher), Barry Fitzgerald (as Michaeleen), Ward Bond (as Father Lonergan), Victor McLaglen (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Squire Danaher), Mildred Natwick (as The Widow Tillane), Francis Ford, Arthur Shields, Abbey Theatre Players, and "the Irish Players". Note that while everyone agrees this is a wonderful movie, there is something odd about the ages of the lead actors. Maureen O'Hara is supposed to be the virginal younger sister of Victor McLaglen, but she was 32 when the movie was made (making her a more suitable lead for John Wayne, who was 45). But McLaglen was 66, and it seems odd that he had a 32 year old sister!

Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster! We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning. Note also that this banner is a silkscreen printed poster with an actual color photo which has neatly been "tipped in" (glued to the left side of the poster). Paper banners were sometimes made in this way at that time, and it makes for a striking poster, and few people would realize that it is not printed on a single piece, unless they examine the poster closely. Note that the silkscreen portions of this poster usually pick up scuff marks far more easily than other posters of this period (this was caused by the method of silkscreen printing, and is very common on these posters, and is not considered a major defect, unless it is very noticeable or distracting).

Condition: good to very good. The poster has a few creases and scuff marks scattered in various areas and a few edge defects (and just a few of those are repaired with tape from the back). Overall the paper banner has survived in much nicer condition than many other paper banners of this time period and is in pretty nice condition!
