Gladiator, the 2000 Ridley Scott (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English/U.S. Rome Italy sword-and-sandal historical adventure epic ("What we do in life echoes in eternity."; "A hero will rise"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Russell Crowe (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Joaquin Phoenix (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Djimon Hounsou, and Richard Harris. Note that Oliver Reed died of a heart attack before shooting for this film was finished, so Ridley Scott had to spend $3 million on CGI effects to fill in the scenes Reed hadn't completed!
