What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The top 4" of the poster was separated completely from the rest of the poster. It had tears and areas of paper loss around the edges and smudges and stains in the blue background areas and to a lesser degree in the rest of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, and the restorer painted over much of the all the blue background areas, which is clearly visible, and you can also see signs of the other defects and the restoration of the other defects (HOWEVER, IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE HOW THE TOP 7" OF THE POSTER APPEARS IN PERSON, EVEN IN OUR SUPER-SIZED IMAGE, SO PLEASE BEAR THAT IN MIND BEFORE BIDDING ON THIS VERY SCARCE POSTER, BECAUSE THE POSTER CLEARLY SHOWS ITS DEFECTS AND WOULD GREATLY BENEFIT FROM ADDITIONAL RESTORATION). After the poster was backed, it acquired rippling across the top 1 1/2", mostly in the excess linen, but also somewhat in the top border, and the same is true to a lesser extent of the bottom border.
