An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Cat People, the classic 1942 Jacques Tourneur human-feline romantic horror thriller ("She was one of the dreaded 'Cat People' -- doomed to slink and prowl and court by night... fearing always that a lover's kiss might change her into a snarling, clawing Killer!"; "She was marked with the curse of those who slink and court and kill by night!"; "A kiss could change her into a monstrous fang-and-claw killer!"; "To kiss her meant death by her own fangs and claws!"; "Beautiful, warm, glamorous by day, she dared not love - for her kisses might change to snarls, her embraces to the death grips of the awful 'Cat People' who stalk and strike by night! ... The Strangest Story You Ever Tried To Get Out Of Your Dreams!"; "Pretty Girl - Black Beast - They're ONE!"; "Written by DeWitt Bodeen"; produced by Val Lewton) starring Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Tom Conway, Jane Randolph, Jack Holt, and Mary Halsey. Note that when this movie was first announced by RKO Pictures in 1942, it was called "The Cat People" in the first trade ads, but it was released simply as "Cat People". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster had creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss in the vertical foldline between the top of the first "E" of "PEOPLE" down to the middle of Simon's hair (by her ear). There was a circular area of paper loss at the crossfold (around 1/2" in diameter). There was small paper loss at the bottom crossfold, but there was considerable water staining across the entire bottom foldline, extending into the "SIMON" of "SIMONE" and the "OM C" of "TOM CONWAY". There were pinholes in the corners. There were creases, a few tears, and some smudges around the edges of the poster. There was small paper loss in the middle of the left blank border. There were some creases and tiny tears on the top two horizontal foldlines. Obviously, this poster had a significant defect (the water staining across the bottom foldline) and also some noticeable minor defects. But the poster was exceptionally well linenbacked! The area across the bottom foldline required a good amount of paint restoration (and extending into the credits above and below as described above), and the other border defects described above also required expert paint restoration (but nothing all that major), and all of this restoration was executed really, really nicely. Looking at the poster from a foot away, you not only don't see the restoration that was done, but you also don't have a sense of the poster having been restored (and much of the poster has no restoration on it). While this is far from an excellent condition example of this poster, I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display it on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
