An Original Vintage Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (measures 41" x 80 1/2" [104 x 204 cm]) (Learn More)

The Frame-Up, the 1910s English stage play production ("Presented by Fred A. Byers & Cato F. Mann"; "A tremendous success"; "Shanley:-'Dead! And it is all my fault'") which was held at the Queen's Theatre in London, England. Note that this poster was printed in the U.S. to promote an English production, but we can find little information about this production. We have found a 1915 Kansas newspaper promoting a play by this name which was produced by "Messrs Byers and Mann" and starred Miss Floy Mann, Jack Connelly, Irene Duckett, Harry Schemmerhorn, and J.K. Hackett. We have also found a source that credits Fred A. Byers as a co-author of "The Frame-Up or The Love-Thief", a 1916 English stage production held at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham. As for Cato F. Mann, he seems to have been a vaudeville performer who later created "Cato's Vagabonds", a traveling big band troupe. If anyone knows more about this production, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this stage play poster! As noted above, it absolutely seems that this poster is printed in the U.S., but does that mean it was printed in the U.S. and then sent to England (because the credits at the top say it is playing in London!). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds. It has black smudges scattered in part of the right border that appear to be a minor printing defect. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
