An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (measures 40" x 60") (Learn More)

Go Ape!, the 1974 20th Century Fox 5-bill release ("20th Century Fox wants you to... Go Ape!") of Planet of the Apes, the classic 1968 Franklin J. Schaffner futuristic science fiction (sci-fi) primate ape-domination thriller ("An unusual and important motion picture from the pen of Pierre Boulle, author of 'Bridge on the River Kwai'!"; "Somewhere in the universe there must be something better than man. In a matter of time, an astronaut will wing through the centuries and find the answer. Ha may find the most terrifying one of all on the planet where apes are the rulers and man the beast."; "Man... Hunted... Caged... Forced to mate by civilized apes!"; "This is Commander Taylor. Astronaut. He landed in a world where apes are the civilized rulers and man the beast."; "This is Marcus. Head of Security Police. His specialties: violence and torture. His mission: to keep man a caged beast on the Planet of the Apes"; "This is Nova. The wild human animal captured and selected for special breeding purposes."; "This is Dr. Zaius. Brilliant Scientist. Only he has the power to save and destroy the animal called man."; "A world gone mad!"; "Based on a novel by Pierre Boulle" and "Screenplay by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling") starring Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, Maurice Evans, Kim Hunter, James Whitmore, James Daly, and Linda Harrison (billed as "introducing Linda Harrison as Nova") AND Beneath the Planet of the Apes, the 1970 Ted Post science fiction fantasy man-vs-ape sequel ("The bizarre world you met in 'Planet of the Apes' was only the beginning... Now civilization's final battle between man and ape is about to begin!"; "Can a planet long endure half ape... Half man?"; "What Lies Beneath May Be The End!"; "An army of civilized apes... A fortress of radiation-crazed super humans... Earth's final battle is about to begin - Beneath the atomic rubble of what was once the city of New York!"; "Based on characters created by Pierre Boulle") starring James Franciscus, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans, Linda Harrison, Paul Richards, Victor Bouno, James Gregory, Jeff Corey, Natalie Trundy, Thomas Gomez, and Charlton Heston ("as Taylor") AND Escape From the Planet of the Apes, the 1971 Don Taylor science fiction fantasy intelligent-apes sequel ("Meet baby Milo who has Washington terrified."; "Prepare yourself for a new generation of incredible apes! They sprang from The Planet of the Apes. They survived the war Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Now they crash through the time barrier in the most exciting suspense film of them all."; "First Planet of the Apes, Then Beneath the Planet of the Apes. And now... Escape from the Planet of the Apes"; "Based on characters created by Pierre Boulle") starring Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, Bradford Dillman, Natalie Trundy, Eric Braeden, William Windom (as The President), Sal Mineo, and Ricardo Montalban ("as Armando") AND Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, the 1972 J. Lee Thompson science fiction fantasy intelligent-ape-men thriller sequel ("ALL NEW!"; "The Revolt of the Apes! The Most Awesome Spectacle In The Annals Of Science Fiction!"; "The newest and biggest yet!"; "Based on characters created by Pierre Boulle") starring Roddy McDowall, Don Murray, Ricardo Montalban ( "as Armando"), Hari Rhodes, and Natalie Trundy AND Battle For the Planet of the Apes, the 1973 J. Lee Thompson science fiction thriller (an installment in the series of "Planet of the Apes" movies; "THE FINAL CHAPTER in the incredible Apes saga. The most suspenseful showdown ever filmed as two civilizations battle for the right to inherit what's left of the earth!"; "Based upon characters created by Pierre Boulle") starring Roddy McDowall, Claude Akins, Natalie Trundy, Severn Darden, Lew Ayres, Paul Williams and John Huston.

Note that in 1974, 20th Century Fox had the idea of having movie theaters show the five "Planet of the Apes" movies in a single program, and produced special movie posters, with an image of an ape from the movies pointing at you, with the tagline "GO APE!". The bottom of this poster had five boxes with the titles of the five movies. Not surprisingly, this idea did not go over well with movie theaters, because they would be selling a single ticket, and having kids sit in their theater all day long! Most of the surviving examples of the theatrical "Go Ape!" poster are found with several of the bottom boxes taped over, because the theater only showed two of the movies.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: very good. There are some creases throughout the image, but there are not so many of them, and they are truly not all that noticeable or distracting. There are two tape stains in the right background area (to the right of the ape's head, where there apparently was once a paper snipe attached). There is tape and areas of paper loss in the first four boxes at the bottom of the poster (it is likely this poster was used several times when only two or three of the movies were shown, and they would have put paper over the movies they were not showing). There was a 4" tear in the lower part of the left border extending into the "G" of "GO" and it was repaired with tape from the front. Obviously, one would wish this poster did not have the above defects, but this is an extremely rare poster, and it would be very difficult to find an example of it without similar defects, as few theaters showed all five of these movies at once, and most of the examples of the one-sheet I have seen have snipes (or snipe remnants) in the bottom boxes. I doubt many of these 40x60s survive at all (I have not seen another one) and other than the above defects, the poster is in pretty nice condition!
