An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German "A1" Movie Poster (measures 23" x 33" [58 x 84 cm]) (Learn More)

Pickup on South Street, the classic 1953 Samuel Fuller Red Menace government agent crime film noir ("How the F.B.I. took a chance on a B-girl... and won!"; "From a story by Dwight Taylor"; "Screen play by Samuel Fuller"; "Adapted from the play by Dwight Taylor"; about a beautiful "B-girl" who does not realize that she is carrying microfilm for Communists which will be sent to Moscow, and a pickpocket picks her pocket, and both the FBI and the Communists will do anything to get the microfilm back, and the pickpocket and the B-girl become romantically involved) starring Richard Widmark, Jean Peters, Thelma Ritter (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Murvyn Vye, Richard Kiley, Willis B. Bouchey, and Milburn Stone. Note that originally Betty Grable was going to play the lead female role, and Marilyn Monroe read for the part as well, but ultimately, Jean Peters got the part.

Artist: Williams
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1953 first release German poster! We have auctioned a 1963 re-release with a different image, which does not show Jean Peters at all.

Condition: good. There is scattered brown staining on the back of the poster, more so on the back of the top left, with some drip stains extending down to the bottom left. There was separation on the top half of the vertical fold and the right half of the top fold, and someone put tape on the back of those areas. Some of the staining on the back showed through to the front and someone performed paint touch up to the stains on Peters' cheek and chin. The poster displays fairly well in spite of the above defects and restoration, but certainly, the new owner might well one want to have it professionally restored. Please read the above and look closely at our super-sized image before bidding on this rare poster.
