An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Canadian One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 41 1/2" [70 x 105 cm]) (Learn More)

Star Wars Trilogy, the 1985 one-time showing ("For the first time in America, The Star Wars Trilogy"; "One Performance Only"; "The [name of specific theater] is proud to present one complete, uncut showing of the Star Wars Trilogy, in 70 Millimeter and Dolby Stereo. Thursday, March 28, at [specific time]. All seats $10"; "This special performance will benefit the Corporation for Public Broadcasting") of the first three Star Wars films that was held on March 28th, 1985. This was a special promotion dreamed up by George Lucas, where only nine theaters showed all three movies on one day only at eight U.S. theaters and one Canadian theater, and naturally, all dedicated Star Wars fans wanted to attend this one day only event, but to do so, they had to go to one of the nine theaters. Lucas had only 2 one-sheets made for each of the nine theaters, so only eighteen posters were created, and each was printed with the specific theater names. These posters were not "printed" like regular movie posters! Because only two of each were needed, each was a photographic blow-up of the image. Because the text of the image had to be changed for each of the nine pairs of blow-ups, the camera setting were apparently slightly changed in between the printing of each pair, so there are slight differences between the nine pairs of posters in regards to border size and image size, and overall measurements (we have now seen four of the nine, but we can't say exactly what they all measure, but there are variances between the four we have auctioned)! THINK OF THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS! While there may be some Star Wars posters where only a small number are believed to exist (even only one or two), in every other case, there is always the possibility that a lot of other examples could be discovered at any time in the future (because a lot of the posters were originally printed), but in the case of these original posters from this one-day 1985 trilogy re-release, absolutely only 18 were made (2 for each of the nine theaters showing the triple-bill), and every pair of posters for each theater is different, so there are absolutely only TWO of each, and there is NO chance that any more of them could ever surface (and around half of the original 18 are believed to still be in collectors' hands). If any poster were to be called "the Holy Grail" of Star Wars posters, it would have to be this one.

Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet measures exactly 27 1/2" x 41 1/2" [70 x 105 cm]. It has no blank borders, unlike the two previous 1985 Star Wars Trilogy posters we have auctioned (which were from the San Francisco showing and from the Seattle showing). That is because this is from the only one of the nine theaters that was NOT in the U.S.! As noted above, there was one Canadian theater selected for this special trilogy showing, and this poster is from that theater! The poster was designed slightly differently from the others (each one has variations, but this one has more, especially the lack of blank borders, and that this poster has a "PARENTAL GUIDANCE ADVISED" rating, that is because it was in Canada, and none of the other posters had that!). Not only is it one of only two posters that were created, but 16 of the 18 posters that were created in pairs are U.S. posters, and this is one of the only two Canadian posters that were created, so it is that much more special! Note that this poster was consigned to us by a person who worked for Fox in the 1980s. They asked for, and received, a Star Wars triple-bill poster, which had been returned to them by the Canadian theater that showed the triple-bill. This is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase a triple-bill poster, and perhaps the only opportunity to purchase the Canadian version (unless the ONE other example of this poster ever surfaces and is offered for sale)!

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 3" tear in the lower right border that extended into the white outline of the rating box (but did not affect the letters inside the box), and which extended into the edge of the white border far to the right of the Dolby logo. There was brown staining in the bottom right corner, in the end of the white area to the right of the Dolby logo, extending into the black beneath it and into the letters of the word "Foundation", more so in the "ation" at the end of the word. There was surface paper loss in the solid black at the right end of the bottom of the poster, to the right of the word "Foundation", and extending to the right corner (most of it was in the bottom 1" of that area). Other than these defects in the bottom right corner, as described above, the poster was in nice condition. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed by a wonderful restorer, and it displays fantastically. If you stare closely at the bottom right corner from inches away, you can see slight signs of the restoration, but not at all from any reasonable viewing distance, and the poster will display incredibly on the new owner's wall!
