A Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 24 3/4" x 36 3/4" [63 x 93 cm]) (Learn More) TWA: Rome, the 1950s airplane airline aviation travel poster designed to promote tourism to Rome aboard Trans World Airlines, and featuring colorful art of the Fountain of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno) in the Piazza Navona by David Klein. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that we have seen two versions of TWA Rome posters with this art. Some have a Constellation aircraft at upper right and "TWA Trans World Airlines" at bottom, and some have an image of a Super Constellation aircraft at upper right under the tagline "Fly TWA". We think that both date from 1950s, but the one with the regular Constellation and "TWA Trans World Airlines" at bottom likely predates the one with the Super Constellation. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: David Klein Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had stains in the left of the top border, in the white background area. It had a small tear in the top right corner, entering the edge of the wing of the plane. It had a stain in the white background area above the horse's head. It also had an added odd defect. Some travel agency was using the poster, and they did not want to solely advertise TWA, so they glued a paper snipe over the "via TWA" area. Later, that was removed, but it left a rectangle of discoloration in the white background around the words. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects (more so where the rectangular area described above had to be touched up).
