An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 28 1/2" x 42" [72 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

Clyde Beatty Circus, the poster promoting a traveling circus show and featuring art of various circus acts. Clyde Beatty was an actor, animal tamer, and big game hunter from the 1930s to the 1960s. He began his circus career working as a cage boy for Louis Roth, learned his trade quickly and soon had his own animal show. In the 1930s and 1940s, he worked with the Cole Bros. Circus, the Clyde Beatty-Russell Bros. Circus, the Hamid-Morton Circus and more. In 1945, he purchased the Wallace Bros. Circus and renamed it Clyde Beatty Circus and it did very well until the mid-1950s when he sold the circus to investors after a bad season. In 1957, the investors merged with the Cole Bros. Circus to become the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus and the show became a major player in the circus industry for over 20 years.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had been folded down the middle and there are some creases and tiny tears on parts of that foldline, and some pinholes, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
