An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded German "A0" Festival Poster (33x47; measures 32 3/4" x 47 1/4" [83 x 120 cm]) (Learn More)

Das Gluckhafte Schiff (literally translates to "The Lucky Ship"), the 1936 German poster promoting an event that was held at the Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich, Germany from February 21st to the 24th, and featuring art of a woman wearing a beret and scarf saluting, with a ship in the background. It is interesting to note that when Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany, he banned all expressionist and "modern" art as "decadent", but oddly, he allowed this sort of event, and the posters created for them, to continue (perhaps it was related to it taking place in Munich, and perhaps he had fond years of living in Munich as a young man, including when he was in prison near the city, when he wrote "Mein Kampf", and perhaps he did not have a philosophical difference with this kind of event!). If anyone knows more about this event, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Artist: Sailer
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning (and it sold for $311) and that same poster has been reconsigned to this auction! Note that this German A0 poster measures 32 3/4" x 47 1/4" [83 x 120 cm].

Note that this poster must be sent in a tube that is over 32" long (which is why it is in this set of auctions). You can tell how long the tube will need to be by adding 2 inches to the shorter dimension of the length or width (so 40x60s need to be sent in a 42 inch long tube, etc). Most of these posters (with the notable exception of paper banners) CAN be combined in the same tube together, with a few exceptions. Bear in mind that a very long tube (42 inches or longer) will cost a lot more to send than a 30" tube, so bear that in mind before bidding on this poster.

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It has a few tiny tears in the borders. It has tiny numbers written in the bottom of the "C" at the bottom left of the poster. Someone put some tape on the back of the entire right border where there had been a few small tears, and that tape has only slightly bled through to the front. Overall, it has likely survived in about as nice condition as one could hope, with a poster of this age and size!
