An Autographed Agreement (measures 8 1/2" x 11"; 2 pages) (Learn More)

Stan Laurel was an actor from the 1910s to the 1950s. He, along with his partner Oliver Hardy, is best remembered as part of the great comedy team "Laurel and Hardy". He had a solo career in the early 1920s, but in 1926, he joined with Hardy (who had been a major star in the mid 1910s), and they made many legendary movies, including Sons of the Desert, Way Out West, Big Business, Helpmates, The Music Box, Tit for Tat, Towed in a Hole, Them Thar Hills, and Liberty. AND Hal Roach was a legendary producer of mostly comedy shorts from 1915 to 1942 (he is credited as the producer on over 1,200 of them!). He was the guiding force behind the Our Gang shorts, the Laurel & Hardy films, and the early Harold Lloyd films, among many, many others. In the early days, his films were released through Pathe. Later, he began distributing through MGM, and he sold his assets to them in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He lived until 1992, past his 100th birthday!
Important Added Info: Note that this agreement has been personally autographed (signed) by BOTH Stan Laurel AND Hal Roach! In it, Stan Laurel agrees to have his company, Stan Laurel Productions, work for Hal Roach Studios, and this agreement spells out that it is not just his company working for Roach, but also Stan Laurel the individual! How wonderful to have these two legendary signatures side by side, and of course, they are 100% surely authentic! It is on two sheets of paper with a punch hole at top and bottom, and they are not attached in any way. The second sheet has embossed seals in the lower right, one from Hal Roach Studios and one from Stan Laurel Productions (no doubt to guarantee the signatures from each party). This agreement was made as part of a settlement of a dispute between Laurel and Hal Roach, where Laurel was suing Roach. Before signing this agreement, he agreed to drop the suit (and we are separately auctioning that agreement, which is signed solely by Stan Laurel, and not by Hal Roach), and he also separately signed this agreement to work for Roach for one year (which Roach also signed).

Note that our consignor has been a memorabilia dealer for the past 30 years, and he tells us that he is certain this autograph is authentic. In some cases he obtained the autographs in person, and in other cases (like with contracts and agreements), it is obvious the signatures are authentic, but he vouches for the authenticity of every item that he has consigned to us, and we also feel certain that the autographs are authentic.

Condition: very good to fine.
