A Complete Set of 18 Original Vintage Spanish 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" [9 x 14 cm] Postcards (Learn More) A Dog's Life, the 1918 Charlie Chaplin silent screwball comedy ("The one and only Charles Chaplin in his first million dollar picture"; "In his first million dollar comedy"; "His Signature"; "A First National Attraction") starring Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin; as the Tramp), Edna Purviance, Syd Chaplin, Henry Bergman, Charles Reisner, and Brownie the Wonder Dog (in the title role). Note that Chaplin was so incredibly popular in 1918, that First National had to pay him a million dollars per movie to lure him away from his previous studio (which was a staggering amount of money in 1918)! Naturally, they wanted to get some advertising value out of their massive expenditure, so they advertised the movie as "His First Million Dollar Comedy". Brownie the Wonder Dog got his giant break in 1918 playing the title role in this film. This led to major stardom and a series of shorts with his name above the title. He starred in 53 movies through 1923, at which point he hopefully retired at the peak of his fame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a complete set of 18 Spanish postcards that were issued by Amatller Chocolates of Barcelona, Spain. They are all for the movie "A Dog's Life", which came out in 1918. The movie was released in Spain on December 23, 1918, so these cards could be from 1918 or 1919, when the movie was surely still playing there. None of the cards were mailed. Our consignor tells us that postcards from this company are rare, and that they made similar sets on other movies from the 1910s and 1920s, but that this is the first time he has ever seen a complete set of cards from any single movie! Condition: very good. None of the postcards were mailed. All have some minor wear around the edges. One has pencil writing on the back (where a child drew in a "stamp" in the stamp area, and all have some slight staining on the back. We have pictured the front and back of all cards so you can see the condition of them. Learn More about condition grades
