An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Trent's Last Case, the 1929 Howard Hawks silent detective crime murder mystery romantic love triangle melodrama ("Story by E.C. Bentley"; a somewhat routine plot of a rich man who is killed, and a police inspector gathers the suspects, which include the man's widow, his male secretary who was in love with his wife, the butler, the maid, and an uncle; also present is a detective who of course solves the case when the police inspector in charge can't; there is a surprise ending where it turns out that the man actually committed suicide, but purposely made it look like his secretary had killed him, because he wanted revenge against the man who loved his wife) starring Raymond Griffith (in the title role as Philip Trent), Marceline Day, Raymond Hatton, Lawrence Gray, Donald Crisp, and Edgar Kennedy. Note that this movie was made early in Howard Hawks' career, but he had had several notable successes prior to this. However, this was made at the time when all the studios but Fox were converting to sound, and Fox persisted with making silent movies, of which this was one. Howard Hawks later claimed that Fox thought this movie would be a dud, and they gave him a tiny budget to work with, but he said he tried to "have fun" with the movie. But he was very disappointed with it, and he was happy when it was thought lost. 40 years after it was made, a print was re-discovered, and Hawks attended the first showing, and part of the way into viewing it, he went to the projection booth and asked the projectionist to destroy the print!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some darkening and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds, with some pinholes and tiny tears in parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
