The Return of Chandu (The Magician), the 1934 Ray Taylor black magic fantasy horror serial sequel ("He's back! The Master of Magic and Thrills"; "with a Distinguished Cast") starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Chandu), Maria Alba, Murdock MacQuarrie, Phyllis Ludwig, and Clara Kimball Young. Note that Chandu the Magician was a radio show that started airing in Los Angeles in 1931, and went nationwide the following year. That was also when a movie adaptation, called Chandu the Magician, was made. Two years later, this sequel, The Return of Chandu, was made, and this time, Bela Lugosi played the lead role, after having a supporting role in the prequel. The show went off the air in 1936. It was revived in 1948 as a 15 minute show and ran for two years.

Important Added Info: Note that this is an unusual pressbook! It has two sections (one marked "ADVERTISING" and one marked "PUBLICITY"), and they are stored together in a heavy folder that opens down the middle. The folder and the two sections are complete and uncut. However, the inside left of the folder has a space where it says "sensational die-cut herald", and there is an empty space below it, but there is no herald there, but we have never seen a pressbook from this that had that herald attached, although we previously auctioned a pressbook which included a cardboard mask of Bela Lugosi that was surely a herald, but that was too big to be in that small area, unless it was folded somehow, and the one we had was not folded. Also, the inside right of the folder has a space that is marked "exploitation novelties", and we don't know what might have gone there, because none of the pressbooks we have auctioned have had anything there! If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)!

Condition: fair, NO CUTS. The pressbook folder and the two sections are complete and uncut. There is unfortunate water staining scattered in both interior sections. It discolors the pages, but you can still see all the printing and images clearly. There is also some staining on the folder, but not near as much, and one of the sides of the cover of the folder is almost completely separated. There are tears and paper loss at the top of the cover of the folder that were repaired with tape (see our images).
