An Autographed Memo (measures 5 3/4" x 7 3/4" [15 x 20 cm]) (Learn More) Greer Garson was an English actress from the 1930s and 1960s. In the late 1930s, she was appearing on stage in London (her first great success was "Street Scene"), and Louis B. Mayer saw her in "Old Music" in London in 1939, and signed her to star in MGM's Goodbye Mr. Chips, where she was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. Some of her movies include: Mrs. Miniver (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role), Julius Caesar, The Valley Of Decision (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mrs. Parkington (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Susie Parkington), Madame Curie (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Marie Curie), Blossoms In The Dust (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Sunrise At Campobello (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and many more! She passed away in 1996 at the age of 91. Important Added Info: Note that this memo has been personally autographed (signed) by Greer Garson! It is a memo from Greer Garson to whoever answered her fan mail, giving them instructions on what to do with some fan letters she had received, including specific instructions on one of them. It is ironic that she wrote "please enclose a 'signed' postcard sized photograph", because obviously the quotes around the word "signed" meant that they weren't really signed, but surely this memo actually IS signed, because she couldn't have a secretary sign a memo to her secretary! Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic!
