An Unfolded Autographed Music Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 37" [62 x 94 cm]) (Learn More)

Star Wars Concert, the 1978 music poster ("The Star Wars symphonic suite by John Williams") promoting a series of concerts featuring the Star Wars musical score by John Williams, and conducted by Zubin Mehta. The concerts began in November of 1977. In the Spring of 1978, the people who ran the concerts sold the idea to other people, and the new owners wanted a single poster image for all of the concerts. This poster was commissioned at that time in 1978 by art director Suzy Rice. It features great art of C-3PO and R2-D2 with a variety of musical instruments by John Alvin. However, it was never released to the public and it was not used at the concerts, which makes it one of the most rare Star Wars posters there is!

Artist: John Alvin
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by composer John Williams! Our consignor is a poster dealer who obtained this poster in a collection, and he does not know the origin of the autograph. But we have no doubt that it is genuine, for two reasons. First, because we have compared it to known signatures of Mr. Williams, and it is very consistent with those. But second, this poster was very desirable and expensive from the very beginning, so it would make absolutely no sense for someone to put a forged autograph onto a valuable poster! Note that we have only auctioned three examples of this poster in all our years of auctioning. The first one was 23 years ago, but we have had two in the past three years, and they auctioned for $7,777 (in very good condition) and $6,750 (in good to very good condition), and of course, neither of them were autographed by John Williams, as this one is. The winning bidder of this auction will have an incredibly rare poster made even better by its autograph of the man behind the concerts that this poster advertised!

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It has some minor creases around the edges, with one crease in the upper left border that extends at a slight diagonal into the background next to the violin. There are a few creases scattered in the image. There is a 1/2" tear in the upper right blank border, and the bottom 1 1/2" of the poster was lightly folded over at one time. This rare and wonderful poster will display fantastically on the new owner's wall!
