An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Sob Sister, the 1931 Alfred Santell newspaper journalism romantic crime melodrama ("from novel By Mabel Gilman"; about a female newspaper reporter who constantly gets in trouble, and her rival at the newspaper, who naturally falls in love with her) starring James Dunn, Linda Watkins, Molly O'Day, Minna Gombell, Howard Phillips, and Wally Albright (six years old and later a member of Hal Roach's "Our Gang"!). Note that this was Linda Watkins' first movie, and she had the co-starring role. She had previously acted in Broadway shows, and Hollywood was searching for stage actors for their sound movies, and she seemed a natural. She appeared in six movies between 1931 and 1933 (and she had the lead female role starting with her very first movie!), but her stage success did not translate well to the screen, and she had married in 1932 and began having children, and she retired from making movies in 1933 (and she returned to the Broadway stage, and she was a voice-over regular on the popular 1930s radio series "Gangbusters"). After her three children had grown in the late 1950s, she returned to the screen, mostly appearing on TV as a character actress! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
