An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 3/4" x 12 3/4" [25 x 32 cm]; 48 pages) (Learn More)

PDC Personality Group 1931 - 32, the 1931 PDC (Producers Distributor Corporation) campaign book, featuring information about stars, and the movies that were planned for production by PDC in the coming year. Note that there is something very unusual about this campaign book! PDC was a company that operated from 1924 to 1927. At that time, RCA was moving into motion pictures, and so was KAO, which was a theater circuit. In mid 1927, KAO acquired PDC and Pathe Exchange (the U.S. branch of France's Pathe Films). In 1928, RCA merged with KAO and formed Radio-Keith-Orpheum, which was abbreviated RKO. They kept Pathe separate from RKO for the time being. In 1929, Radio Pictures was created, and RKO began to absorb what remained of Pathe, and by the beginning of 1931, Pathe was not separate anymore. But what about PDC? Apparently someone at RKO planned for there to be a separate PDC section of the studio, which would explain why this campaign book has PDC 1931-32 on the cover and PDC on all the interior pages. But that idea must have fallen through after this campaign book was produced, because the book was entirely recreated with RKO/Pathe on all the pages, and with the same interiors! We have never seen anything like this before (two campaign books with different studio names, but the same contents). The campaign contains four "fold-outs" that fold out twice, and which open to 19" x 23" full-color images of four of their stars, Constance Bennett, Ann Harding, Helen Twelvetrees, and Ina Claire. There is also information on William Boyd films, westerns, Van Buren cartoons, and more. In every case, these stars and films are advertised as being "PDC", but in every case, those were released by RKO/Pathe. What a fascinating curiosity!

Condition: good. The covers have staining (see our images). Three of the four fold-outs have separated from the binding. Those fold-outs have staining in the lower left or lower right and a few of the other pages have slight staining. But the staining is not too significant and this book contains lots of wonderful art (see our many images).
