An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Standee (measures 20 1/2" x 36 3/4" [52 x 93 cm]) (Learn More) Tobacco Road, the 1941 John Ford Georgia poor uneducated family comedy melodrama ("At last... it's on the screen!"; based on the classic novel by Erskine Caldwell, which became a Broadway play in 1933, and set a then-record of 3,281 performances, running until 1941; when the play finally ended, 20th Century-Fox and producer Darryl F. Zanuck made this film version of it, and because it had taken so long to reach the screen, it was given the tagline "At last... It's on the screen!"; about a family of uneducated Georgia farmers who have valuable land that is ultimately taken away from them, and director John Ford had difficulty translating the play to the screen, because of the censorship of the day; Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews were the romantic leads, but they ended up with only a few minutes of screen time together, and Charley Grapewin's character "stole" the picture!) starring Charley Grapewin, Marjorie Rambeau, Gene Tierney (in her third movie role!), William Tracy, Dana Andrews, Slim Summerville, Ward Bond, Grant Mitchell, and Zeffie Tilbury NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that standees were made for most major movies of the 1920s to 1940s, but very few survive, and most of the ones that do survive are one of a kind, and often, they are in much lesser condition. The reason for this is obvious, because these could not be stored in any convenient way, and they were surely mostly "scrapped" soon after the movie finished playing. This standee offered here is not only the only example of this we have ever seen, but it is also in pretty nice condition, which is especially surprising, because it is die-cut, and the uneven edges would be that much more likely to be broken off. It also has the complete original standee backing, which is often lost from standees like these! Condition: good to very good. There is scattered staining in the bottom green area and paper loss in the bottom right corner. There is some darkening down the left edge of the standee, and in the right of the lower title and credits area. There is a crease across Tierney's face, but no paper loss in that area. The original standee backing is still with the standee, as noted above. Learn More about condition grades
